RECs embody the environmental benefits of one megawatt-hour (MWh, equal to 1,000 kilowatt-hours) of renewable electricity, and can be purchased separately from the electricity you're already getting from your electricity provider (learn more about how this works). When you pair a REC with a MWh of system power, you are using renewable energy.
